Inkjet is the printing method whereby ink is forced through jets.
A) The bubble jet system is found on printers by HP, Canon, Encad or Kodak. Here the ink is heated so it expands and forms a vapour bubble that is forced through a jet nozzle. The ink lands on the medium (paper, film) as droplets and cools. The resulting low pressure draws fresh ink into the ink reservoir, a process that is repeated many thousands of times per second.
B) Piezo technology is deployed in printers by Epson, Mutoh, Mimaki and Roland. Here low pressure draws ink into the reservoir, with voltage applied to a piezo element (semiconductor). The piezo element expands, starts to vibrate and propels the ink out of the reservoir. The ink is forced through the nozzle opening onto the printing medium and the resulting low pressure draws more ink into the ink reservoir. Again, this process is repeated thousands of times per second..
