PA / Polyamide Cast Polyamide Film PA 6 is used in flexible, deep drawing multilayer films, mostly in a compound with PE or other polymers. In a multilayer composite, the PA layer acts as a gas and aroma barrier and allows the compound to be deep drawn while providing mechanical strength.

The main deployment scenarios are vacuum packaging for foodstuffs such as meat, sausage and cheese. These films are also increasingly being used in non-food applications: In chemical/technical areas, interesting uses are being found for PA and PA/PE compound films due to their special properties. Examples include separating films for sheet moulding compound (SMC) prepregs and roof underlay products.

Other sample applications are vacuum-packed chemicals, inliners for fibre drums and technical items that need to be protected from corrosion. Features include high water absorption, very good aroma- and greaseproofability, very good resistance to organic chemicals and very good resistance to heat and cold. Expanded polyamide films feature the highest tensile strength and rub resistance of all plastic films and are extremely ductile. They also have very low cold flow, a very narrow welding temperature range, excellent deep drawing and plasticity properties and are highly transparent. Polyamide films are produced using chill roll facilities or as coex blown film. They can be mono- or biaxially expanded.
