is the process of matching the printer software to the inks and substrate (medium).

First, a standardised colour scale is printed. Then, with the help of a spectrophotometer, the colour densities and the colour values of the printed colours are measured and taken over by the calibration software. This data is stored in the form of a printer profile and entered into the RIP (Raster Image Processor). The next time the same ink is printed on the same material, the corresponding colour corrections are automatically made by the RIP software after the profile has been selected.
