Bandaging Film

Bandaging Film for the Vulcanization of Rubber Rollers

During the vulcanization of rubber rollers, nylon tapes are commonly used to stabilize the rubber compound prior to vulcanization. Tapes made of cotton, viscose yarns, or polyester are also used for this purpose. optimont® 501 BO-PET film is ideally suited as a bandaging film for the vulcanization of all types of rubber rollers. Many manufacturers in the automotive sector, where various types of rubber rollers are required, have already switched from the labor-intensive use of tapes to the application of film. The material is more cost-effective than the previously used tapes and thus reduces production costs. In addition, the use of film simplifies preparation for vulcanization. This shortens production downtime and further contributes to cost reduction.

Bandaging Film as a Technical Process Film

The use of optimont® 501 BO-PET film in the vulcanization of rubber rollers is a typical application of the film as a technical or process film. Just as nylon tapes or tapes made from other materials are not only used in the vulcanization of rubber rollers but also in many other areas where strong, stable tapes are required, optimont® 501 bandaging film can likewise be used in many other technical processes. As a release film, protective film, or carrier film, this heat-resistant, robust, and dimensionally stable film can be used in a wide range of technical applications.

BO-PET Material for Bandaging Film

The optimont® 501 bandaging film is made from BO-PET. The designation “BO” stands for biaxial orientation, which describes the process in which BO-PET films are stretched after extrusion both in the machine direction and transverse to it. This process, also known as stretching, is responsible for many of the material properties of BO-PET film. Heat resistance, dimensional stability, and high mechanical strength are the key properties that are enhanced during the stretching of polyester film. For reliable use in technical processes such as the vulcanization of rubber rollers, these properties are decisive for safe and cost-effective use as a bandaging film.

Adhesion-Enhanced Surface of the Bandaging Film

optimont® 501 BO-PET film features a one-sided adhesion-enhanced surface, which is important for many applications. This surface allows the film to be printed using all common printing processes. Other finishing options, such as lamination, are also possible due to the adhesion-enhanced surface. The film is offered by Bleher in thicknesses ranging from 7 to 250 μm. This makes it suitable for a wide variety of applications, for example as a viewing window in cardboard packaging. As the material is food-compliant, these viewing windows can also be used for food packaging. A key requirement for use as a viewing window is the crystal-clear quality of the bandaging film. Depending on the application, the film can be supplied as cut-to-size formats or in roll form: narrow rolls, jumbo rolls, short rolls, or master rolls.

R-PET Variant of the Bandaging Film

PET is the plastic with the highest recycling rate among all plastics. PET that is produced largely from recycled PET is referred to as R-PET. optimont® 501-R-PET is the recycled PET variant of our bandaging film. optimont® 501-R-PET offers similar product properties to optimont® 501 BO-PET film, but is manufactured from 90 percent post-consumer recycled materials. For companies that place importance on a strong environmental footprint, the R-PET variant of our bandaging film is an excellent alternative, as production from recycled granulate saves a significant amount of energy and water.

Storage Life of optimont® 501 and optimont® 501-R-PET Bandaging Film

To maintain their product properties, bandaging films must be stored in a closed, dry warehouse. Strong light sources and direct sunlight should be avoided. Moisture and heat can also impair the long-term properties of the bandaging films. A maximum storage temperature of 40 °C must be observed. Storage in the original packaging is recommended. If these conditions are met, bandaging film can be stored for many years without loss of quality.
