optimont® copy-laser-film

optimont® copy-laser film for prints and copies

The copying film for office applications, optimont® copy-laser, is manufactured from biaxially oriented polyester film, known as BO-PET film. The base material BO-PET offers high heat resistance and tear strength as well as abrasion resistance. The biaxial orientation, which gives the film its name, meaning stretching in the machine direction and transverse to it, is referred to in technical terminology as “stretching.” This production process results in the good mechanical properties of BO-PET film and is particularly responsible for the dimensional stability, which is a basic requirement for successful use as a laser printing film for presentations.

For use as optimont® copy-laser film, the BO-PET film is coated on both sides. With this white-matte coating, optimont® copy-laser film is also suitable for copiers.

Properties of optimont® copy-laser films

optimont® copy-laser film derives its very good mechanical properties, heat resistance, and dimensional stability from the base material BO-PET. The very good flatness of the transparent laser copying film on an overhead projector is also based on the properties of the BO-PET base material.

Despite the double-sided coating, optimont® copy-laser film remains translucent. The coating enables uniform toner coverage and thus results in high print quality on the laser film for overhead projectors. optimont® copy-laser film is also chemically resistant. For example, the stable copying film for laser printers is resistant to water, methyl ethyl ketone, and ethyl acetate. optimont® copy-laser film is crystal clear as a laser copying film.

Antistatic properties of optimont® copy-laser film

As part of the coating process, the film is equipped with antistatic properties. The special toner coating contains an additive that prevents electrostatic charging of the films or allows it to be dissipated in a controlled manner. The antistatic treatment enables better handling of optimont® copy-laser films. For example, they can be processed more easily from a stack and do not block. optimont® copy-laser film can also be processed without difficulty in single-sheet feeding.

Despite the coating, the laser copying film remains transparent, and it is only through the coating that the film becomes printable for laser copiers.

Areas of application for optimont® copy-laser film

optimont® copy-laser film is designed as a copying film for laser printers for producing high-quality prints in black and white or in color. The coating ensures high print quality and uniform color distribution. The BO-PET copying film is laser-compatible, but it is also backward compatible and can be used as copying film in standard copiers.

As an overhead film, it is used for presentations or in education to reproduce motifs on the placed films with accurate colors and precise detail. optimont® copy-laser film is suitable as a PET copying film for all types of office applications.

If copiers or laser printers are equipped with an optical sensor for sheet detection, laser copying films must be crystal clear and provided with a sensor strip so that the sheets can be detected and processed reliably. This is the case for all four variants of optimont® copy-laser film.

Variants of optimont® copy-laser film

All types of optimont® copy-laser film have the same basic properties as described above. All variants have a thickness of 100 µm. The differences relate exclusively to the available size and the attached paper or sensor strips.

  • optimont® copy-laser PL is supplied in DIN A4 size and is bonded on the long side with a residue-free removable paper strip
  • optimont® copy-laser PK is supplied in DIN A3 size and is bonded on the short side with a residue-free removable paper strip
  • optimont® copy-laser SL is supplied in DIN A4 size and is bonded on the long side with a residue-free removable sensor strip
  • optimont® copy-laser SK is supplied in DIN A3 size and is bonded on the short side with a residue-free removable sensor strip

In addition to these standard sizes, other sizes such as US letter format, special formats, or rolls are also available on request.

Heat resistance of optimont® copy-laser films

The melting point of the base material BO-PET film is approx. 265° Celsius. This therefore applies to all variants of optimont® copy-laser film and provides the films with heat resistance up to at least 200° Celsius. This enables the processing of copying films for laser printers in all common types of copiers and laser printers. Damage to the devices caused by a melting film is excluded. Printing on systems with high fusing temperatures is therefore also possible on optimont® copy-laser films.

Advantages of optimont® copy-laser films

  • The matte coating of optimont® copy-laser films enables high print quality and uniform toner coverage
  • The antistatic treatment ensures good processing quality both in single-sheet feeding and in stack processing
  • optimont® copy-laser films are heat-resistant and dimensionally stable, allowing use in all printer types
  • The translucency of the films enables special optical effects
  • The very good flatness prevents underexposed copies and similar undesirable effects. For this purpose, all fingerprints must be removed from the films before use, as well as dust and dirt

Technical data of optimont® copy-laser films

  • Basis weight: 140 g/m²
  • Thickness: 98 µm without coating
  • Tear strength: 190 N/mm² in the machine direction and 220 N/mm² transverse to the machine direction
  • Elongation at break: 200 percent in the machine direction and 140 percent in the transverse direction
  • Coefficient of friction: 0.2
  • Haze: 2.5 percent
  • Light transmission: 94 percent

Storage stability of optimont® copy-laser film

optimont® copy-laser film should be stored in a dry place in the original packaging. The copying film for laser printers must be protected from direct sunlight or strong light sources. optimont® copy-laser films are best stored in a closed warehouse at 10° to 25° Celsius. Relative humidity should be between 20 and 50 percent. Excessive moisture and heat should be avoided; under these conditions, optimont® copy-laser film can be stored without problems for one year or longer.

Packaging of available optimont® copy-laser films

The standard formats DIN A4 and DIN A3 are packaged in neutral white boxes with a lid, containing 50 or 100 sheets. If packaging sizes for smaller quantities are required, optimont® copy-laser films can also be packed in sleeves for 10, 20, or 30 sheets. On request, it is also possible to provide the packaging with an individual brand design.

Meaning of the designation “copy-laser”

The designation copy-laser in the Bleher product range refers to copying films that are suitable for both laser printers and copiers. In addition to the four copy-laser films described here, optimont® copy b&w films are also available as a special copying film for black-and-white copiers, which can also be written on with film markers. Specifically for color laser printers, we offer the 120 µm thick optimont® laser-color Premium film. Both of these films are of course also manufactured from the high-quality and dimensionally stable BO-PET material from the Bleher product range.
