MYLAR-A films

MYLAR-A polyester film is a technical film that is used in particular as an insulating film in various technical areas, from equipment manufacturing to cable production. Its mechanical and chemical properties make it suitable for applications with high loads. Its electrical properties open up broad fields of application in the electronics industry and in electrical plant engineering.

Specific properties of MYLAR-A polyester film

MYLAR-A polyester film is frequently used in the electrical and electronics industry because it has well-balanced electrical properties. High mechanical load capacity, neutrality towards chemical substances and very good thermal properties open up a wide range of applications for the film. Very good resistance to moisture and solvents are important properties that enable the technical use of polyester films. MYLAR-A can be used in a temperature range from minus 70° to 150° Celsius. Since the film contains no plasticizers, it does not become brittle under normal ageing conditions. MYLAR-A has high tensile strength and is characterized by very good dielectric strength. The polyester film is basically transparent, but appears milky and hazy as the thickness increases. Its very good performance as an electrical insulator is important for use in technical applications. Another important criterion for the use of MYLAR-A in electrical engineering is its low moisture absorption. The possibility of equipping MYLAR-A with antistatic properties and supplying it in a self-adhesive version greatly expands its areas of application.

Applications of the technical film MYLAR-A

The areas of application for MYLAR-A are mainly in the technical sector, but go far beyond this. MYLAR films are used, for example, in motor and generator construction as slot insulation, cover strips or for phase insulation. Core, layer and cover insulation in transformers and relays are produced using the film. Cable insulation and cable production form a separate area of application for this insulating polyester film. MYLAR-A can also be used as an insulating material for die-cut parts or circuits. The automotive sector is another area of application for MYLAR-A beyond the electrical and electronics sector. In addition to card applications, the material is also used in the furniture industry. Healthcare and pharmaceuticals are further areas of application for the flexible polyester film. Labels and packaging, as well as other industrial applications, are produced using MYLAR-A films.

Technical films from the Bleher range

Various polyester films from the Bleher range can be used as alternatives to Mylar films. The films are all made from biaxially oriented PET film, known as BOPET film. Common properties of the films include dimensional stability, heat resistance, tear resistance and water resistance. All technical films from Bleher also share resistance to chemical substances with MYLAR-A.

Applications and properties of the various optimont® films

  • optimont® MF-AS

The film is glass-clear, antistatic and suitable for visor films, as a cover film and protective film, as well as for various industrial applications.

  • optimont® MF-SC

This polyester film is smooth on both sides and hazy. It is suitable as a carrier film in flexographic printing, for industrial applications, as a protective film and release film. It can also be used to insulate electronic and electrical components. For this purpose, it is used in cables, motors and circuits.

  • optimont® MF-MW

Milky white version of the polyester film, available in many additional thicknesses and suitable for the same applications as optimont® MF-SC.

  • optimont® MF-WO

This BOPET film is white opaque and matt. In addition to the applications already mentioned above in industry, electronics and electrical engineering, it is also used for coatings and laminations.

  • optimont® SW

In addition to the industrial applications mentioned, the black opaque PET film optimont® SW is mainly used as a printing film that can be printed using all common printing processes.

  • optimont® 501

optimont® 501 is glass-clear and has an adhesion-enhanced surface on one side. This makes it suitable for industrial applications, as a carrier film and protective film, and as a release film.

  • optimont® TCA

Milky white PET film that is TCA-treated on one side for maximum ink and adhesive adhesion. Particularly suitable for composites and adhesive tapes.

  • optimont® CBF

The film can be supplied chemically coated on one or both sides, with the PU-based pre-coating serving as an alternative to TCA treatment. This film is also used for various industrial applications and composites.

  • optimont® ANC/ANC

Glass-clear polyester film with an anchor coating on both sides. In addition to various industrial applications, it can also be used as a coating, process and mounting film. optimont® ANC/ANC is also suitable for water-based adhesive applications.

  • optimont® MF-AC/AC

Glass-clear BOPET film acrylic-coated on both sides. The film is suitable for coatings and Industrial applications. It can be used in offset printing, screen printing and flexographic printing, and is also suitable for labels. The acrylic coating ensures improved ink adhesion. optimont® MF-AC/AC is therefore used especially for high-quality printing and packaging materials.

Advice on applications for technical films

optimont® technical films can be used in all areas in which MYLAR-A films are also used. Bleher Folientechnik will be happy to advise you on which films are best suited for which applications.
