optimont® Syntheticpaper
optimont® Syntheticpaper – tear-resistant synthetic paper based on BO-PET
With its synthetic paper optimont® Syntheticpaper, Bleher Folientechnik brings a product to the market that combines the properties of paper and BO-PET film in one product. optimont® Syntheticpaper is white, writable, and printable like paper, but tear-resistant, heat-resistant, and weatherproof like BO-PET film.
This makes it suitable for many outdoor applications where printed or written information needs to be displayed long-term and in a weatherproof manner. optimont® Syntheticpaper can be printed with laser printers.
Areas of application for optimont® Syntheticpaper
Printed information that needs to withstand moisture, heat, cold, or direct sunlight outdoors is best printed on optimont® Syntheticpaper. Menus or table displays for outdoor restaurants, ski passes or admission tickets, identity passes, promotional signs, product stickers, or information signs can be produced from optimont® Syntheticpaper.
When printed with a laser printer, the information is weatherproof and UV-resistant without lamination or any other protection. The synthetic paper for laser printing does not swell, does not tear, and does not fade. It does not become illegible but remains durable with consistent quality. City maps or manuals that are used frequently and intensively do not fray. Parking permits made from optimont® Syntheticpaper have a long service life and do not need to be replaced before they expire. Menus and advertising materials made from optimont® Syntheticpaper withstand strong mechanical stress and remain readable and attractive, even when used repeatedly and exposed to sun, wind, and rain.
Advantages of optimont® Syntheticpaper
- Does not need to be laminated for outdoor use
- Can easily be printed with a laser printer
- Water-resistant
- Weatherproof
- Resistant to mechanical stress
- UV-resistant
- Does not yellow
optimont® Syntheticpaper – weatherproof label material
Anyone looking for tear-resistant paper for labels is exactly right with optimont® Syntheticpaper. The printable white PET film is a high-quality alternative to Xerox NeverTear. Both synthetic papers are available as durable A4 print media.
As a polyester film for label printing, optimont® Syntheticpaper can also be supplied in other formats, suitable for all types of label printers. The labels remain legible for a long time even when stored outdoors and do not weather.
Labels with barcodes or QR codes that store important information must withstand high stress during storage or transport, caused by moisture, temperature fluctuations, or dirt. By printing on optimont® Syntheticpaper, the stored information about the labeled product is provided reliably and securely over the long term.
PET film for office printing
Wherever the durability, tear resistance, or weather resistance of paper is not sufficient, laser-printable polyester film such as optimont® Syntheticpaper is the right alternative. The outdoor-capable printing paper can be printed without problems both in single-sheet feeding and in stack processing.
This means it does not present any logistical issue in an office, school, or public authority, because it can be processed in the same printer as paper. optimont® Syntheticpaper in DIN A4 format is simply placed into the paper tray instead of standard DIN A4 paper. No changes to the printer are necessary.
However, the prints have the weatherproof and mechanically durable properties of a laser-printable polyester film even without lamination. Using weatherproof optimont® Syntheticpaper simplifies many office workflows when it comes to producing outdoor-capable notices or information. Primary school teachers can finally put away the laminating machine when they print their durable templates on optimont® Syntheticpaper.
The BO-PET material as the basis for optimont® Syntheticpaper
BO-PET film refers to biaxially stretched polyester film material. This means that at the end of the extrusion process, the film is stretched in the machine direction and transverse to the machine direction, or oriented, as it is called in technical terminology. Through this biaxial orientation – from which the designation component BO originates – BO-PET film obtains its outstanding mechanical, chemical, and heat-resistant properties. The film also gains its very good dimensional stability during this process, a property that plays an important role in printing applications.
Finishing of optimont® Syntheticpaper
Equipped with the basic properties of BO-PET film, optimont® Syntheticpaper is colored white opaque and coated matte on one side or on both sides. The white coloring creates the optical impression of paper. The matte finish makes the otherwise smooth BO-PET material rough and printable. After this treatment, optimont® Syntheticpaper is visually hardly distinguishable from paper.
In terms of feel, it is stiffer and harder than paper, but due to the matte coating still quite paper-like. As a BO-PET material, optimont® Syntheticpaper is so tear-resistant that it can hardly be torn by hand. The high melting point of 265° Celsius allows the material to withstand temperatures of at least 200° Celsius, which is important during printing to protect printing equipment. No one needs to worry that a melting film could destroy an expensive printer.
Product properties of optimont® Syntheticpaper summarized

Technical data of optimont® Syntheticpaper
optimont® Syntheticpaper is available in thicknesses of 120, 140, 190, and 270 µm with a matte coating on both sides. At Bleher Folientechnik, it is offered in the standard formats DIN A4, DIN A3, and DIN SRA3, as roll material, and also in special formats.
Depending on the thickness of optimont® Syntheticpaper, opacity according to the CIE standard ranges between 94 and 98 percent. Light transmission ranges between 7 and 13 percent according to ASTM D-1003. Tear strength reaches a value of 1400 kg/cm² in the machine direction and 1500 kg/cm² transverse to the machine direction.
In addition to this double-sided matte film range, we also offer a very thin film that is matte-coated on only one side. optimont® Syntheticpaper AD is self-adhesive and only 60 µm thick. Nevertheless, it can be printed with all common printers and copiers. This thin synthetic paper is available in DIN A4 and DIN A3 formats.
