MELINEX film

As a biaxially oriented polyester film, known as BOPET film, MELINEX is characterized by high tensile strength. It is available in many variants and thicknesses, from super-clear to white, and is produced by DuPont Teijin Films. The film can be used across a wide temperature range and is resistant to many chemicals. MELINEX has good insulating properties, making the film suitable for a wide range of technical, industrial and electrical applications. Equipment manufacturing is an important market for MELINEX films. The electrical properties of MELINEX make it suitable for many applications in the electronics industry, as well as in electrical plant engineering. In addition to their good electrical properties, MELINEX films are characterized by their high mechanical and chemical resistance.

Specific properties of MELINEX polyester film

In addition to tensile strength and heat resistance, resistance to many chemicals is one of the most important properties of MELINEX. Chemical resistance and good insulating properties make the films attractive for the electrical industry. This is complemented by high dielectric strength and the very low water absorption of MELINEX films. The many possible variants of surface treatment also make MELINEX usable for very specific and unusual applications.

Applications of MELINEX polyester films

Flexible conductor tracks for a wide variety of applications are a typical use for MELINEX polyester film. High-quality labels can be produced from it, as can membrane keyboards, electrical insulation and displays. Industrial applications and the production of electronic components using MELINEX as an insulating material are possible, as is its use in card applications or in the furniture industry. Labels, insulating parts and packaging can be produced from it, as well as industrial formed and die-cut parts. Thanks to the wide variety of films available, many requirements of the electrical and electronics industry, as well as automotive applications, can be realized with the films. The films are also used in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, both as labels and packaging and as parts of medical devices. In screen printing processes with solvent-based inks, MELINEX films are used as mounting films.

Alternatives to MELINEX films from the Bleher range

optimont® films from Bleher can be used in many areas as alternatives to MELINEX films. The technical films are all made from biaxially oriented and stretched PET film, known as BOPET film. The following properties are shared by optimont® films: heat resistance, dimensional stability, tear resistance and water resistance. Resistance to many chemical substances and low water absorption are further similarities between MELINEX films and the technical films from Bleher.

Properties and applications of optimont® technical films

  • optimont® MF-AS

The glass-clear film has an antistatic finish. It is suitable as a cover film, visor film or protective film, as well as for various other industrial applications.

Polyester film with a smooth surface on both sides and a hazy appearance. It is suitable as a carrier film in flexographic printing and for various industrial applications. It can also be used as a protective film and release film. Further applications include the insulation of electronic and electrical components in cables, motors and circuits.

  • optimont® MF-MW

Milky white polyester film that can be used for the same applications as the optimont® MF-SC film described above. The BOPET film is available in many thicknesses.

  • optimont® MF-WO

White opaque, matt BOPET film. In addition to the applications mentioned above in electronics, electrical engineering and industry, optimont® MF-WO is used for laminations and coatings.

  • optimont® SW

Black opaque BOPET film, which is mainly used as a printing film. It can be printed without difficulty using all common printing processes. In addition, it is also suitable for many of the industrial applications already mentioned.

  • optimont® 501

Glass-clear BOPET film with an adhesion-enhanced surface on one side. This film is also suitable for various industrial applications, as well as for use as a release film, carrier film and protective film.

  • optimont® TCA

Milky white BOPET film, TCA-treated on one side with an increased surface tension value of 80 mN/m. The film is therefore equipped for first-class ink and adhesive adhesion. optimont® TCA is particularly suitable for the production of composites and especially for adhesive tapes.

  • optimont® CBF

As an alternative to TCA treatment, the chemically coated polyester film optimont® CBF is available with one-sided or double-sided coating. The PU-based pre-coating also increases the surface tension value to over 70 mN/m. This film is therefore also suitable for printing, various industrial applications and the production of composites.

  • optimont® ANC/ANC

The glass-clear polyester film optimont® ANC/ANC is equipped with an anchor coating on both sides. It can therefore be used as a coating film and process film. Industrial applications and use as a mounting film are also possible. In addition, the film can also be used for water-based adhesive applications.

  • optimont® MF-AC/AC

The glass-clear BOPET film optimont® MF-AC/AC is acrylic-coated on both sides. It is therefore particularly well suited for coatings. Industrial applications and various printing processes are further areas of use. The film can be used in offset printing, screen printing and flexographic printing. It is also suitable for the production of high-quality labels. The acrylic coating improves ink adhesion in the printing process. This leads to high-quality print results, for example on packaging materials.

Applications of technical films

For all areas in which MELINEX films are used, alternatives can be found among optimont® technical films. We will be happy to advise you on the applications and possible uses of the individual films in different finishes and thicknesses.
